A man accused of stealing cash from a local bar while working as a cleaner was arrested this week after being picked up during a parole check, Auburn police said.
Karlston Thomas, 51, is facing a felony charge of grand larceny in the 4th degree. Police allege he stole about $1,500 from the cash register at Kosta’s Bar & Grill over six separate occasions in September.
According to a media release from the Auburn Police Department, officers began investigating after the bar’s staff reported missing money. Thomas was employed there as a cleaner at the time.
An arrest warrant was issued, but Thomas wasn’t taken into custody until November 17, when New York State Parole officers detained him during a routine check-in. Auburn police then responded and arrested him.
Thomas, who lives on Elizabeth Street in Auburn, was arraigned in city court and is now being held at the Cayuga County Jail.
