Just 48 hours removed from capturing its third straight sectional championship, the Midlakes boys volleyball team stepped back onto the court Friday night for another postseason test. Facing Spencerport in the New York State Class B Play-In at Finger Lakes Community College, the Screaming Eagles needed every ounce of resilience to extend their historic season.

Midlakes found itself in a steep hole after dropping the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-18, but the match was far from over. The Screaming Eagles clawed back with a tight 25-23 win in the third set, built more momentum with a 25-20 victory in the fourth, and capped off the stunning rally with a 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set. The comeback secured Midlakes’ first-ever berth in the state tournament.
The victory also carried extra weight, as Spencerport had ended the Screaming Eagles’ season in each of the previous four seasons. Midlakes improved to 22-2 while the Rangers closed their season at 17-6.
The state tournament is set to begin on Saturday, November 22.
