Seneca County shelves $1M housing plan for now

A $10 million housing strategy pitched to the Seneca County LDC last week won’t make it into next year’s budget, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Board Chair Mike Enslow said the county isn’t ready to commit $1 million annually over the next decade, citing financial and political concerns.

The proposed strategy, built around fixing a soft housing market, outlined options like infill, rehab projects, and new subdivisions. But planners said most ideas aren’t viable without local incentives—especially for middle-income housing, which lacks grant funding.

Suggestions to fund the plan through tax hikes sparked hesitation. While the strategy was acknowledged as useful, Enslow said more discussion is needed before moving forward.
