With the federal government shutdown threatening winter heating assistance, RG&E and NYSEG say they’ll continue supporting HEAP customers, according to WHAM News.
The utilities are pausing automatic disenrollments and partnering with New York’s Public Service Department to maintain benefits. Gov. Kathy Hochul slammed Congress for stalling funds and urged eligible residents to enroll in the state’s Energy Affordability Program for monthly bill discounts.
Applications for HEAP opened Nov. 1 and will be accepted until funds run out or mid-March.
