Livingston County launches emergency food drive amid SNAP pause

Livingston County is stepping up to help families in crisis with a countywide food drive, as local food pantries face overwhelming demand due to the federal government shutdown and a pause in SNAP benefits.

The Livingston County Community Food Drive is collecting essential nonperishable items now, with all donations going to area food banks to support residents facing food insecurity.

Food pantries overwhelmed by need

“With many of our neighbors struggling to put food on the table, the shelves at local pantries are being emptied faster than ever,” the county announced. The temporary halt in food assistance has hit low-income households hard, and pantries are scrambling to keep up.

Officials are asking community members to donate staple foods and household essentials to help meet the urgent demand.

What to donate

Requested items include:

  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Rice and stuffing
  • Baby formula and shelf-stable milk
  • Peanut butter and canned chicken
  • Mac & cheese
  • Cereal, granola, and oatmeal
  • Canned soups, vegetables, and fruits

Where to drop off donations

Donations can be brought to any of the following locations:

  • Livingston County Government Center
6 Court Street, Geneseo, NY 14454
  • Livingston County Department of Social Services
1 Murray Hill Drive, Mount Morris, NY 14510
  • Livingston County Department of Health
2 Murray Hill Drive, Mount Morris, NY 14510

Organizers say every item donated goes directly to local families in need.
