A battery research hub in Binghamton is set to receive up to $45 million in federal funding as part of a national innovation program.
The funding will support the Binghamton University-led New Energy New York project through the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines program.
Officials said the funding will be distributed over the next three years to expand battery manufacturing and research in the region.
The project is part of a broader effort to establish upstate New York as a hub for battery technology and energy storage.
Previous federal investments have supported the initiative, including earlier funding through the same program and a federal tech hub designation.
The effort has already supported industry partnerships, startup development, and job creation tied to battery manufacturing and related technologies.
