A grieving mother’s fight for a kratom ban is fueling pressure on Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign two regulation bills, according to Spectrum News 1.
Randy Wilson, 31, died suddenly in July after using kratom, a psychoactive plant product he believed was safe. His death is one of several in New York linked to the unregulated substance, often sold as powders or gummies.
The proposed laws would ban kratom sales to anyone under 21 and require clear health warnings. Hochul has until Dec. 31 to sign. Lawmakers say it’s a first step — but families want a full ban.
