Yates County corrections officer retires after 25 years

After 25 years of service, Corrections Officer Karen Bates is stepping back from her full-time role with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Bates first joined the agency in February 2000 as a part-time employee and soon transitioned into a full-time position. Over the years, she became a key member of the county’s corrections team, known for her steady presence and commitment to the job.

The Sheriff’s Office celebrated her retirement this week, thanking her for more than two decades of dedication. But her departure won’t last long—Bates plans to return in just a few days as a part-time corrections officer.

“Karen, your years of dedicated service to the agency are greatly appreciated,” the department wrote in a post honoring her milestone.
