Yates and Ontario counties celebrate new emergency dispatch graduates

Emergency dispatchers from across the Finger Lakes officially graduated from a regional training course this week, including three new team members from Yates County and four from Ontario County.

The two-week Basic Emergency Services Dispatcher Course, hosted by the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy (FLLEA), wrapped up on October 31. It included intensive instruction on 911 call handling, radio transmissions, law enforcement support, and dispatching for fire and EMS.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office welcomed Emergency Services Dispatchers Nick Cole, Genna Elliott, and Onalia Sheradin as its newest graduates. Ontario County also celebrated the graduation of four Communication Officers: Simmons, Rodriguez, Moody, and Castiglia.

The course covers a wide range of topics—everything from interpersonal communication and stress management to dispatch technology and basic legal training. This year’s class included attendees from Cayuga, Livingston, Ontario, and Yates counties.

“These dispatchers are the vital link between people in crisis and the first responders rushing to help,” officials said.
