Eight veterans from Livingston County were among the 44 honorees celebrated Thursday during Sen. Pam Helming’s annual Veterans Recognition Program in Canandaigua.
Held at the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center, the event highlights local heroes from across the 54th Senate District. It also serves as the first step toward selecting the district’s official nominee for the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.
Among the Livingston County honorees was Bob Wolter, a U.S. Army Sergeant Major and Veteran Engagement Specialist with the County’s Veteran Services office. He was joined by Jacob Cicero, Justin Cogswell, David Harcleroad, Peter Treible, Kenneth Weaver Jr., Jerome Butterbrodt, and Daniel Walkley — each recognized for their military service and ongoing commitment to the community.
“As a member of a military family, I know that many veterans are humble about their service,” Helming said. “This event helps ensure their stories are seen, shared, and remembered.”
Honoring service beyond the uniform
Livingston County Veteran Services Director David Terry said the recognition reflects the lasting impact these individuals continue to have at home.
“Each of these nominees have served our country with honor and continue to strengthen our community,” Terry said. “We are grateful to them for their ongoing commitment.”
The County’s Veteran Services office helps veterans access no-cost benefits, from health care and education to employment and peer support. It also leads Operation Green Light, a nationwide campaign started in Livingston County to honor veterans and raise awareness of available resources.
One veteran from Thursday’s ceremony will be selected to join the NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame in the spring.
