A New York judge says the Hochul administration broke the law by dragging its feet on emissions rules, according to POLITICO.
The Department of Environmental Conservation now has until Feb. 6 to finalize regulations that cut emissions 40% below 1990 levels—just five years from now. The decision stems from a lawsuit by four environmental groups who accused the state of ignoring its 2019 climate law.
Gov. Kathy Hochul criticized the ruling and hinted at a possible appeal. She warned it could drive up costs and strain the energy grid, especially with expected shortages downstate next year.
