A new Cornell University map shows just how hard federal budget cuts have hit New York, according to Spectrum News 1. In just three months, the state lost nearly 121,000 jobs and saw more than $15 billion vanish in federal aid and contracts.
The tool, created by Cornell’s ILR Buffalo Co-Lab, links those losses to Trump-era policies aimed at “government efficiency” — including layoffs and spending cuts. Groups like the Homeless Alliance warn the cuts are putting vulnerable people at risk.
The map is still in phase one and needs more data, but the ongoing federal shutdown is delaying updates.
