Get ready to smash, compost, and learn — the Pumpkin Smash and Compost Bash is back at the Ontario County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 to 11 a.m.
Hosted by the Ontario County Department of Sustainability and Solid Waste Management and CCE Ontario, the free event gives residents a fun and educational way to dispose of their Halloween pumpkins — while promoting composting and sustainability.
Participants can bring their own pumpkins (BYOP), or use one of the limited supply provided at the event. Every pumpkin smashed will be composted afterward. Local robotics clubs will also be on hand to demonstrate pumpkin-smashing gadgets and tech.
In addition to the smashing fun, there will be hands-on pumpkin activities for all ages to explore composting and food waste reduction.
No registration is required, but the event is open only to Ontario County residents. Attendees are reminded to dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes if they plan to participate in the smashing.
The fairgrounds are located at 2820 County Road 10, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
