Mayors, Assembly seat and land use on NY ballot

Voters across New York are deciding high-stakes local races, a special Assembly election, and a constitutional amendment this year, according to Spectrum News 1.

Three of upstate’s largest cities — Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo — are picking new mayors, with historic wins possible for Black female candidates in Albany and Syracuse. NYC’s mayoral race is also in the spotlight, featuring Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa.

Voters will also weigh in on a special election in the North Country’s 115th Assembly District and a proposal to allow winter sports development on protected Adirondack land — in exchange for adding more parkland elsewhere.
