The Buffalo Bills made several roster moves Tuesday following their Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers, highlighted by placing defensive tackle Ed Oliver on injured reserve.
Oliver suffered a torn biceps in Sunday’s victory and is expected to be sidelined until at least the playoffs, though that is not definite. Head coach Sean McDermott previously said Oliver would be out indefinitely. The injury is another major blow to Buffalo’s defensive line, which has already been hit hard by injuries. In three games this season, Oliver has posted three sacks, seven tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and a forced fumble.
To fill the roster spot, the Bills signed defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and safety Jordan Poyer to the 53-man roster. Both veterans had been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Because it was Phillips’ third elevation, he was no longer eligible for further temporary call-ups. Poyer, who made his first start of the season in place of the injured Taylor Rapp, recorded five tackles against Carolina. Phillips has appeared in three games this year, registering four tackles, one sack, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit.
With these moves, Buffalo’s active roster is full, though two practice squad openings remain. One of those spots could soon be filled by wide receiver Gabe Davis, who is nearing a return from a preseason knee injury.
