Bills’ Ed Oliver to undergo surgery for torn biceps

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver has suffered a torn biceps that will require surgery and he will be sidelined indefinitely, head coach Sean McDermott announced Monday.

Oliver sustained the injury during Buffalo’s 40-9 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The standout lineman went down late in the second quarter on a three-yard run by Carolina’s Chuba Hubbard. After appearing to grab at his left arm, Oliver was evaluated on the sideline before heading to the locker room and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The setback adds to Buffalo’s mounting depth issues along the defensive line. DaQuan Jones has missed the past two games with a calf injury suffered in pregame warmups before Week 6, and rookie T.J. Sanders remains on injured reserve.

Oliver, one of the anchors of the Bills’ defense, had been off to a strong start this season with three sacks in three games. His absence leaves a significant hole in the middle of Buffalo’s front.
