Cornell men’s soccer edges Brown on Senior Night, clinches Ivy Tournament bid

The Cornell men’s soccer team capped Senior Night with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Brown on Saturday at Berman Field. Down a goal for most of the match, the Big Red scored twice in the final 11 minutes to secure a spot in the Ivy League Tournament and improve to 11-2-1 (4-1-0 Ivy).

Brown (5-6-2, 1-3-1 Ivy) struck early, converting a long throw-in just three minutes in when Mateo Pereyra poked the ball past goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg. Despite dominating possession and outshooting the Bears 24-10, Cornell couldn’t find the net until late, hitting the post twice and seeing one goal waved off for offsides.

The breakthrough came in the 80th minute when Sam Latona volleyed home a cross from Aidan Martin to tie the match. With just two minutes left, Martin again delivered the decisive assist, cutting a pass back to Adam Schaban, who fired in the game-winner from close range. Friedberg made two key saves to keep Cornell within striking distance and earned his 44th career win.

The Big Red’s relentless attack produced a 15-2 shot advantage in the second half and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Brown goalkeeper Henrik Weiper finished with eight saves, including seven after halftime.

Box Score

Cornell, unbeaten in its last six Ivy League matches, travels to Harvard next Saturday, November 1, for its final regular-season contest.
