New York Democrats say a poll showing Elise Stefanik closing in on Gov. Kathy Hochul broke state election rules, according to the Times Union.
The complaint claims Stefanik’s PAC-funded poll should’ve been disclosed within 48 hours and accuses her of using federal campaign money for a potential state run. Stefanik hasn’t officially entered the race but has hinted at a bid.
Her team called the complaint “laughable,” arguing federal election law overrides state rules unless she declares. The Board of Elections says it may still treat someone as a candidate based on their actions.
