Mynderse student leads teen driver safety push statewide

Brea Osborn of Mynderse Academy is taking the wheel again — this time as a returning leader on the New York State Student Leadership Council (SLC) for SADD, the national youth safety organization.

Now in her second year on the council, Brea is helping lead efforts to promote safe driving habits among teens during National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 19–25) and throughout the school year.

“Safe driving means everyone getting to school and home without distractions or accidents,” Brea said. “It’s important for everyone to have a refresher of safe driving skills.”

She added that as a passenger, she always wears a seatbelt and encourages others to do the same — even reminding people to quiet down if they’re distracting the driver.

Brea’s leadership helps shape statewide campaigns that focus on peer-to-peer education, mentorship, and awareness. She’s also helping guide new members on the SLC and serve as a role model for students across New York.

Her continued service highlights how young voices are making a real difference when it comes to traffic safety and positive decision-making.

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) has spent more than 40 years empowering teens to take action around issues like driving safety, substance use, and health. Its student-led chapters stretch across schools nationwide — including right here in Seneca County.
