Deputies arrested a man Friday evening in Locke after a high-speed incident led to multiple charges.
The driver, identified as 65-year-old David R. Costley, was charged with driving while intoxicated, obstructing governmental administration, and several traffic violations, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
It started around 7:09 p.m. on Oct. 17, when a deputy saw a black Ford Mustang speeding at 83 mph in a 55 zone on Route 90. The deputy turned on emergency lights and sirens, but the Mustang didn’t pull over.
Instead, the driver continued onto Tollgate Hill Road at the posted speed limit. While the deputy followed behind, Costley reportedly threw a can out the window before pulling into a driveway.
Deputies say Costley was found to be intoxicated at the scene and taken to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building. He refused a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol level.
He was later arraigned and released on his own recognizance. Costley is scheduled to appear in the Town of Locke court at a later date.
