Deputies charged a woman after finding a cat abandoned in a box with a note along a rural Wayne County road.
Mckayla Willard, 19, of Henrietta, was arrested after an investigation into the incident on County House Road, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say Willard adopted the cat from Lollypop Farms but later decided she could no longer care for it. Instead of returning the animal, she allegedly drove to Arcadia and left it behind.
Willard was charged with abandonment of animals. She was released with a ticket and is due in Arcadia Town Court on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m.
