Millions in New York may lose food aid next month

Nearly 3 million New Yorkers could lose SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1 due to new federal work rules and a looming government shutdown, according to Spectrum News.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” ends exemptions for older adults and parents of teens, tightening eligibility. But most of New York’s districts — including the Bronx and upstate areas — fall short of the unemployment rate needed for waivers.

On top of that, the USDA warned states it may not have funds to load EBT cards in November if Congress doesn’t pass a budget.
