Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is rare — earning it alongside your sibling is even rarer.
On September 27, Senator Pam Helming joined local leaders to honor Rian and Audrey de Wit, Livingston County siblings who both achieved Scouting’s highest rank. The special Court of Honor ceremony took place at Ricky Greene Memorial Park in Conesus.
Rian earned his Eagle badge last year but chose to wait so he could celebrate alongside his sister Audrey. Their joint achievement marks a proud milestone for their family — and for the local scouting community.
“This is more than a Scouting milestone — it’s a moment that reflects the strength of family, service, and tradition,” Helming said. She also noted how meaningful it was to see the siblings stand beside their grandfather, Ronald de Wit, who earned his Eagle Scout rank 70 years ago.
Audrey’s accomplishment carries extra significance. She is only the second young woman in Troop 5074 to earn the Eagle Scout rank. Her troop is one of the first all-girl troops in the county, standing proudly alongside Troop 4074 for boys in Livonia.
For their Eagle projects, Rian built two benches for the Railroad Museum in Rush. Audrey worked with the Town of Conesus to improve Ricky Greene Memorial Park, building new steps for the gazebo and resurfacing a playground for young children.
Senator Helming also recognized Scoutmasters Paul Gates and Katie Marr for their leadership.
“The de Wit siblings are proof that the values we instill in our youth — service, leadership, and perseverance — truly matter,” Helming said.
