Bodycam footage showed officers beating Robert Brooks the day he was moved to Marcy Correctional, and now a jury will decide if that violence was criminal, according to CNY Central.
Three former guards — David Kingsley, Nicholas Kieffer, and Mathew Galliher — face murder charges and up to life in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say they dehumanized Brooks, who died a day after the assault.
Defense attorneys argued the men followed orders, didn’t inflict fatal injuries, or didn’t know what was happening. Brooks was serving time for a 2014 stabbing and was set for release in 2026.
