A rollover crash in Waterloo late Sunday night ended with a DWI arrest and four damaged vehicles, police said.
Officers responded to West Main and Virginia streets around 10:30 p.m. on October 12 for a reported personal injury accident involving a vehicle that had flipped and slid down the road.
Investigators say 26-year-old Cody C. Helmer of Port Byron was driving westbound when he veered out of his lane and hit a parked car on the north shoulder. That car was pushed into two others parked nearby, setting off a chain reaction. Helmer’s vehicle rolled over and skidded down the street.
Waterloo Police say Helmer was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Helmer was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18% or higher, reckless driving, moving from his lane unsafely, unreasonable speed under special hazards, and speed not reasonable and prudent. He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court at a later date.
Waterloo Police were assisted by New York State Police, the Waterloo Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance at the scene.
