A man was seriously injured in a crash between a car and a motorcycle last weekend in the Town of Covert.
Deputies with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office say the crash happened around 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the intersection of Route 89 and Frontenac Road.
Investigators say Jason Sherman, 52, of Arcata, California, was driving a Subaru northbound on Route 89 when he attempted to turn left onto Frontenac Road. He allegedly failed to yield, and his vehicle was struck by a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Jason Titus, 39, of Apalachin, New York.
Titus suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Upstate Medical Hospital. Sherman and his passenger, H-C Fisher White, 47, of Queens, were not hurt.
Deputies say Sherman’s license was suspended in California and not valid in New York. He was charged with failure to yield the right of way and operating without a valid license — both vehicle and traffic violations.
Route 89 was shut down during the investigation. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Trumansburg Fire, EMS, Life Net, and members of the department’s criminal investigation and accident reconstruction teams.
