Fallen Binghamton firefighter honored in Albany

More than 100 people traveled to Albany to see Binghamton firefighter John “JR” Gaudet’s name added to the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial, according to WIVT.

Gaudet died in February while battling a Main Street blaze allegedly set by a homeless man. The Binghamton firefighter’s union chartered a bus to the Empire State Convention Center for the ceremony.

He was one of 126 names added this year — most tied to 9/11-related illnesses. Union leaders praised Gaudet as a devoted father, coach, and community supporter.
