Lawmakers push back on NYSEG rate hike plan

Local leaders say NYSEG needs to fix its billing chaos before asking for more money, according to WBNG.

Senator Lea Webb and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo are urging residents to attend public hearings Oct. 7 and 8 in Binghamton and Ithaca, where officials will take feedback on NYSEG’s proposed rate increase.

The hike would help fund a multi-billion-dollar grid overhaul, but lawmakers say billing errors, surprise charges, and poor service are already overwhelming customers. A virtual hearing is set for Oct. 21, and new rates could take effect May 2026.
