Binghamton police chief steps down after probe

A video-recorded fight involving his girlfriend helped end Joseph Zikuski’s decades-long career, according to WIVT.

The Binghamton police chief resigned and will officially retire Oct. 6, weeks after being placed on paid leave. City officials say the move follows an independent investigation into a July incident in Johnson City, where Zikuski was seen off duty trying to pull his girlfriend from a porch altercation.

The video showed her attacking neighbors and shouting, “We are the police.” A final report from the city’s hired law firm is expected soon.
