Auburn to oppose NYSEG rate hikes and office closure

Auburn City Council plans to vote Thursday on a resolution opposing NYSEG’s proposed utility rate increases and the closure of its local customer service office at 73 Wright Circle.

The city says the 23.7% electric and 33.5% gas rate hikes, slated for April 2027, would place a significant financial burden on residents and businesses. Closing the Auburn office would also limit in-person service access.

The resolution will be sent to state officials, including the Public Service Commission, Governor Hochul, and local lawmakers.
