Sodus invites residents to walk and talk about safer streets

Do Sodus streets feel safe for walking or biking? Local leaders want to hear from you.

The Village of Sodus is hosting a community walking audit on Tuesday, September 23 at 6 p.m., inviting residents of all ages and abilities to help identify safety issues and improve accessibility.

Participants will meet at 14-16 Mill Street for a short walk—less than one mile—around the village. Along the way, neighbors will take note of areas where sidewalks, crosswalks, or signage may be lacking or unsafe.

The event is open to parents worried about kids walking or biking to school, business owners interested in safer access for customers, and anyone who wants to make Sodus a more walkable place.

After the walk, a group discussion will be held at the Village of Sodus offices. Those unable to walk are still welcome to join that part of the evening.

The audit is part of a broader initiative led by Active People Healthy Wayne, Finger Lakes Community Action, and the New York State “Creating Healthy Schools and Communities” program.
