A Cayuga County town is suing its former supervisor, accusing him of secretly stealing over $36,000 from public accounts, according to The Citizen.
Throop officials allege William Tarby wrote unauthorized checks and made cash withdrawals over a decade while hiding the transactions from the town board. Tarby had already pleaded guilty in 2024 to stealing $10,873 during his final three years in office.
Now, town leaders say the theft went deeper—and they’re demanding full restitution through a lawsuit filed in county court.
