A stretch of State Route 21 in the Town of Manchester will now permanently honor the life and service of fallen Airman Technical Sergeant Kory Wade, thanks to new legislation signed into law this week.
Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan announced that his bill (A.6584B) to designate the roadway in Wade’s memory has been officially signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
The newly named section — “Highway Dedicated to TSgt Kory Wade” — runs from the intersection of State Route 96 to Latting Road/Standpipe Road, passing directly in front of the Wade family home.
TSgt Wade, a 2008 graduate of Red Jacket High School and lifelong Manchester resident, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force immediately after graduation. He served with distinction as a medical logistics airman with the 48th Rescue Squadron and died during a training exercise on June 17, 2023.
“TSgt Kory Wade was a true American patriot,” said Gallahan. “His service is truly inspirational. This dedication will ensure his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Wade earned numerous military awards, including the Air and Space Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Air and Space Achievement Medal, among others.
Outside of uniform, he was known for his love of the outdoors, motorcycles, and spending time with family, friends, and his beloved dog, Kaiser.
Flags were ordered to half-staff by Governor Hochul last July following his passing. This new road dedication, Gallahan says, offers a permanent tribute to Wade’s sacrifice and his impact on the community he loved.
The New York State Department of Transportation will install signage marking the dedication. A formal ceremony is expected to be announced in collaboration with the Wade family and local officials.
