A 59-year-old man is facing DWI charges after driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 in Albany and causing a rollover crash early Saturday morning.
State Police say Benjamin Zirra was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Exit 25 around 12:01 a.m. when he struck another vehicle. Both cars rolled over and ended up on the right shoulder of the embankment.
Zirra declined medical treatment but showed signs of intoxication, according to troopers. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.
The second vehicle’s driver and front passenger were not hurt. A rear passenger was taken to Albany Medical Center with a shoulder injury.
Zirra was processed at the Albany State Police barracks and issued appearance tickets. He’s scheduled to appear in Guilderland Town Court on October 2.
