Tompkins County will temporarily move its Assessment Department and Office for the Aging to Lansing as it prepares to build a $50 million Center of Government in Ithaca, according to the Tompkins Weekly.
Legislators approved the $1.2 million purchase of a Dutch Mill Road building, saying it offers better parking, accessibility, and working conditions—especially for seniors and rural residents. The move could save up to $250,000 per year compared to renting.
Construction on the new downtown Ithaca complex is expected to begin in 2027 and finish by 2028.
