Hundreds of cyclists will take to the roads around Cayuga Lake this Saturday for the 27th Annual AIDS Ride For Life — the Southern Tier AIDS Program’s (STAP) largest fundraiser of the year.
The event starts at 6 a.m. at Stewart Park in Ithaca, with riders heading out on routes ranging from 14 to 100 miles. Safety support vehicles, seven pit stops, and a celebratory finish line will keep the riders fueled and supported throughout the day.
A ride with purpose
The AIDS Ride For Life raises funds to support STAP’s services for people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses, LGBTQ+ youth at the Identity Youth Center, and participants in the organization’s Syringe Exchange Program.
“Whether riders go 14 miles or 100, every dollar raised goes directly to care and support in our communities,” said Kayla Thomas, STAP’s Special Events Coordinator.
Last year’s ride drew 256 participants from across the country and raised more than $150,000.
