New law requires schools to prep for cardiac emergencies

All New York schools must now have cardiac emergency response plans in place as part of “Desha’s Law,” which took effect Monday, according to Spectrum News.

The law was named for 12-year-old Desha Sanders, who died during gym class in 2009 when a locked AED delayed help. Schools are now required to include cardiac protocols in their safety plans.

Additional parts of the law will roll out in January.
