Bills bring back Jordan Poyer, add safety to practice squad

Jordan Poyer is headed back to Buffalo.

The Bills have re-signed the veteran safety to their practice squad, according to The Athletic’s Diana Russini.

Poyer, 34, spent seven seasons in Buffalo from 2017 to 2023, but was released last spring as part of the Bills’ salary-cap maneuvering, when the team released several veterans to free space.

Buffalo’s safety group is currently led by Taylor Rapp and second-year standout Cole Bishop, with Damar Hamlin providing depth. Rookie Jordan Hancock earned a roster spot but has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Poyer’s role could resemble the one Micah Hyde filled last season, when the longtime safety was brought back late in the year primarily as a mentor for younger players.

Over 13 NFL seasons, the former All-Pro has put together a strong career, recording 24 interceptions, nine forced fumbles, and 57 passes defended.
