Curious about the buzzing life in your backyard? The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps is hosting a special program all about wild bees — and how you can help them thrive.
The event takes place Sunday, Sept. 21, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the NYSDEC Onondaga Lake Visitors Center in Syracuse. It includes a presentation by SUNY ESF pollinator ecologist Molly Jacobson, followed by a guided nature walk along the West Shore Trail and through a pollinator garden.
Jacobson will highlight native bee species, offer ID tips, and explain how native plants support bees, butterflies, and even baby birds. The walk will showcase real plant-pollinator relationships that you can replicate at home.
“Over 90% of native insects can only feed on the native plants with which they’ve evolved over millions of years,” said Chris Lajewski, Director of the Conservation Corps.
