Irondequoit man accused of using deceased person’s EBT card

A 42-year-old man is facing charges after investigators say he used a deceased person’s food stamp benefits to make unauthorized purchases.

Anthony C. Scalzo of Sea View Avenue in Irondequoit was arrested following a welfare fraud investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Department of Social Services.

Detectives say Scalzo used the deceased person’s EBT card on June 9 to redeem $254 worth of SNAP benefits he wasn’t entitled to. The incident took place in the Town of Lyons.

Scalzo was charged with misuse of food stamps and petit larceny. He was released on an appearance ticket and is expected to answer the charges in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
