NYSEG’s proposed “Powering New York” grid overhaul could mean higher bills for customers, according to WBNG.
The utility wants to raise rates by 10% on part of customer bills to help fund the project. Rep. Josh Riley blasted the plan, citing hardship for struggling families and accusing NYSEG’s parent company, Iberdrola, of funneling profits overseas.
NYSEG insists investments back into New York exceed any dividend payouts, and says all rate changes face strict state review.
