A new bill could let lawmakers block utility rate hikes like the one just approved for National Grid customers, according to Spectrum News 1.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara introduced the proposal after upstate New Yorkers were hit with increases that could cost $600 a year. His bill would give the Legislature 60 days to review—and potentially reverse—rate hikes approved by state regulators.
The plan would also apply retroactively for one year.
