Auburn woman charged after attempted break-in, vehicle damage

A Cayuga County woman is facing two misdemeanor charges after allegedly trying to break into a home and damaging a nearby vehicle with a skateboard.

Sheriff Brian Schenck said deputies arrested 25-year-old Nyasia J. Spencer of Auburn on August 1 after responding to a trespassing complaint in the town of Sennett around 5:03 a.m.

According to investigators, Spencer attempted to enter a residence by opening a door that led directly inside. She fled the scene after being confronted by someone inside the home. Deputies later discovered that Spencer had also struck and damaged a vehicle in the area with a skateboard.

She was charged with attempted criminal trespass in the second degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree. Spencer was processed at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building and released on appearance tickets.

She is scheduled to appear in Sennett Town Court on August 6 at 5 p.m.
