Penfield man ID’d in fatal Steuben plane crash

A 41-year-old man from Penfield died Friday evening when his small-engine plane crashed in Steuben County, according to New York State Police.

Troopers said Brian J. Valder was the sole occupant of the aircraft, which went down around 7:00 p.m. on Morton Hill Road in the town of Hornellsville. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation found the plane had departed from the Brockport area before the crash. Authorities reopened Morton Hill Road after clearing the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash. State Police and emergency crews remain on scene.
