AI data centers blamed as electric bills climb

Electricity costs are rising for many Americans as tech giants expand power-hungry AI data centers nationwide, according to WSYR.

The Trump administration’s new “AI Action Plan” aims to fast-track permits for these centers, which companies like Amazon and Google are rapidly building. In areas like Ohio and New Jersey, customers have already seen power bills rise up to 20%, though experts say supply and demand—not AI centers alone—are driving prices.

Still under construction, the centers are expected to strain power systems further unless they adopt renewable energy. Some are already turning to solar to offset demand.
