Lyons inmate charged with food stamp misuse and theft

A 26-year-old man already in custody at the Wayne County Jail faces new charges after allegedly allowing others to use his food stamp benefits, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph M. Gonzalez was arrested and charged with misuse of food stamps and petit larceny following a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Wayne County Department of Social Services.

Detectives allege that Gonzalez allowed other individuals to use his SNAP EBT card on two separate occasions, totaling $62.00 in unauthorized benefits. The charges were filed on July 28.

Gonzalez was issued an appearance ticket and returned to jail, where he remains on unrelated charges. He is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
