New York will no longer require employers to provide paid COVID-19 sick leave starting July 31, according to RochesterFirst.
The law, passed in March 2020 at the height of the pandemic, gave workers up to two weeks of paid time off to isolate. It was enacted as New York City logged over 200,000 infections and hundreds of deaths in just three months.
Employees can still use standard paid sick leave if they test positive, but the COVID-specific protections will officially expire after five years of use.
