Geneva schools name three new administrators

Three educators are stepping into key leadership roles at Geneva City School District this fall, including a returning assistant superintendent and two new building-level administrators.

Karen Fahy has been appointed interim assistant superintendent for Teaching, Learning, and Accountability. Jason Michaels will serve as the district’s new athletic director, and Matthew Bienvenue will join Geneva Middle School as assistant principal.

Fahy replaces John González, who accepted a position with Churchville-Chili schools. She previously held the interim assistant superintendent role in 2022 and currently leads Geneva’s Early College High School program. With more than two decades in Geneva schools, Fahy also held administrative roles in Rochester City Schools and Geneva 2030 before returning in 2022.

“It is an honor to continue to serve the Geneva City School District in this capacity,” Fahy said. “I am deeply committed to our students, staff, and families.”

Michaels has been with Geneva since 2015 and takes over the athletics department from Larry Lang. A coach, physical education teacher, and administrative intern, Michaels is known for his rapport with students and families.

“I’m truly excited to step into this position and serve our community with passion, purpose, and pride,” Michaels said.

Bienvenue comes to Geneva from the Seneca Falls Central School District and is currently a K–5 principal with Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES. He replaces Shannon Kelley, who became principal of Geneva Middle School.

“Geneva is a special place,” Bienvenue said. “I’m committed to fostering a school culture where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.”
