A Honeoye Falls resident is preparing to swim the full 16-mile length of Canandaigua Lake to honor a loved one and raise money for cancer-affected families, according to WROC.
Luca Spagnolo, 23, isn’t a trained swimmer—but that hasn’t stopped him from training for months to complete the challenge on August 18. He’s dedicating the swim to his cousin Julian, who died of brain cancer in 2024. The two shared summers by the lake, and Julian encouraged him to swim there for the first time.
So far, Spagnolo’s effort has raised more than $12,000 through Facebook and GoFundMe. The donations will benefit two families currently battling cancer.
