A 24-year-old Amazon employee was shot and killed while waiting in his car outside a fulfillment center in Gates, New York, according to WHAM.
Police say Markis Ortiz-Harris was targeted in the parking lot of the Manitou Road facility and that the shooter was likely not an Amazon worker. The center briefly shut down during the investigation. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with shell casings scattered on the ground.
Ortiz-Harris was remembered by co-workers as kind and helpful. Amazon confirmed his death and said it is offering support services to grieving employees. No public threat remains, and the investigation is ongoing.
